Dutchess County resident Victor Smith, age 66, of Poughkeepsie, was charged on Thursday, Sept. 26 at his Poughkeepsie home.
According to Det. Sgt. Adam Harris of the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force, the force began an investigation after receiving complaints from residents regarding drug dealers operating in or near Poughkeepsie Housing Authority facilities throughout the city of Poughkeepsie.
Harris said task force agents began purchasing cocaine from Smith, who was selling cocaine to community members out of the Phillip Allen Swartz Facility located at 378 Mansion St.
During a warrant search of Harris' home at the facility, seized crack cocaine, which Smith had manufactured or “cooked” inside the apartment for selling, Harris said.
Smith was charged with the following offenses: Criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance, possessing 1/8 ounce or more of narcotics.
The Drug Task Force was assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Division and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Community Policing Unit.
"The Drug Task Force will continue to investigate the sale of narcotics and dangerous drugs in Dutchess County," Harris said.
